Some of the hottest tracks from this weekend's Eurosonic Noorderslag

‘The Netherlands is known for some pretty iconic things - tulips, bicycles, the reality show, Big Brother. This weekend, it was all about exciting new music, with the small Dutch city of Groningen being taken over by an influx of some of the industry’s most exciting rising talent.

Eurosonic Noorderslag was truly the place to be, with music lovers from across the globe gathering to discover some of the most exciting new artists. With acts from all corners of the world, we were a bit spoilt for choice with our playlist this week, but we decided to treat you to all things Dutch to coincide with Denise, the newest member of P&S family, joining us in our Amsterdam office. Here are some of her highlights from the festival.’

Scintilla by Jarreau Vandal

The ultimate party starter, Jarreau Vandal draws on influences from old school hip hop, jazz and soul to create a rich and infectious sound. Teaming up with rising vocalist Luna Mae, whose silky vocals are featured here, Vandal is simply captivating.

Bad Habit by Lyzza

Slowly taking over Amsterdam’s experimental dance scene, LYZZA has already appeared alongside the likes of Mykki Blanco, Princess Nokia and Le1f. Pretty impressive considering she’s still in her teens. We can’t wait to see how much she continues to grow.

Saitama by Niels Broos & Jamie Peet

A collaboration that absolutely destroyed their set at Eurosonic, Niels Broos & Jamie Peet have been making waves in Holland’s hip hop and jazz scenes. Mixing the classic with the contemporary, they’re increasingly adventurous and experimental with their sound.

The Dream in Her by Thomas Azier

With an almost effortless grasp of pop poeticism, Thomas Azier has an incredible command of emotive electro-pop. Now primarily based in Berlin, Azier has fully immersed himself in the electronic scene there, creating an even more expansive sound.

Houten Pak by Willem

Arguably the highlight of Eurosonic, Willem has dealt with depression and anxiety attacks in the past and conveys this with such honesty and intensity through his music. Deeply emotional and powerful, this track hits you right in the feels. Pretty apt for ‘Blue Monday’.
