The leading multicultural agency has shared an animated GIF sticker and two short videos in support of the LGBTQ+ community
Leading multicultural agency Orcí has launched a new social media campaign to celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride Month. The agency is supporting the LGBTQ+ community in an effort to continue their commitment to equality for all in matters of diversity and tackling vital issues that affect minority communities. The campaign consists of an animated GIF sticker and two short videos that explain the importance of sharing the message in the animation and the reason Orcistas celebrate Pride.

Among millenials, Latinx are the least likely to identify as heterosexual, with 22 percent identifying as LGBTQ, according to the GenForward Survey Project at the University of Chicago.

The animated GIF first shows the rainbow-hued spelling of “LGBTQ+” and then transforms into the word “HUMAN =.” The video invites users to share the sticker/GIF throughout their social channels during Pride Month to raise awareness about current LGBTQ+ issues.

“With pride season in full effect, the LGBTQ+ voices need to be heard now more than ever as we are currently living in a nation divided,” says Isaac Rizo, account executive at Orcí. “This year’s pride season is kicking off with the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots and it is clear that there is work that remains undone to achieve equality.”

“It’s an encouraging societal transition to witness: a greater number Latinx youth defying heteronormative cultural norms to fully express their identity and finding this acceptance in social media AND their surroundings,” explains Juan De Anda, social media content manager at Orcí. “The proliferation of the identifier ‘Latinx’ in personal and public use encourages and promotes a language of diversity and inclusivity, in and of itself.”

But there’s still a long way to go. Latinx LGBTQ youth are twice as likely to hear negative messages about being LGBT than other ethnic groups, and 53 percent hear this from a family member. Only 26 percent hear positive messaging. When asked what their most pressing issue is, the top concern is acceptance.

This is the first phase in an effort by Orcí to tackle issues affecting LGBTQ+ individuals in the United States. A more nuanced and in-depth look into the Latinx LGBTQ+ community will be unveiled in the days leading up to National Coming Out Day, October 11.
