Oliver Warren Directs the NHS Choir's Christmas Chart Topper

Amongst all the emotions that Christmas delivers it often provides the most unlikely of surprises and events. This past Christmas did just that when Justin Bieber was knocked off the number one slot to be beaten by the NHS Choir.

The song 'A Bridge Over You' by The Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Choir is a mix of Simon and Garfunkel's 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' and Coldplay's 'Fix You’.

Its success in the charts was not won by chance though as it represented a highly orchestrated and innovative campaign driven by inspiring Creative Director Nick Entwhistle of One Minute Briefs. The Gate Films were later contacted by The Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Choir to shoot the final chart topping promo.

At this point enters Dingo Bill Director Oliver Warren. Oliver along with his regular DoP’s Simonluca Fraioli and Gualtiero Fisauli were loaned to Manchester’s Gate Films along with their state of the art equipment to aid in creating the emotive promo.

Over two days at Lewisham Hospital the team worked closely with the incredible staff and choir to create a documentary style ‘day in the life’ of the hospital. BAFTA award winning Producer Claire Lewis was also onboard to capture the real lives and hopes of staff and patients throughout the hospital, from the maternity unit through to the elderly wing.

The whole experience was a humbling one for all involved. Everyday people determined to show support for the cause have driven its success. Even Justin Bieber came out in favour of the choir beating him to the coveted Christmas number one slot.

The promo has now been viewed by over one million people on You Tube and has been covered by every major newspaper and social media outlet in the UK and beyond.

Of his involvement in directing the film, Oliver Warren says:  “What an honour to help the NHS Choir get to number one with a music video that made grown men weep and pop stars tweet ‘Thanks again, Bieber - I owe you one’. I'm proud as punch to have directed it. The NHS is an institution worth fighting for and the staff of Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust are heroes, who go above and beyond every day without getting championed."
