The report looks at digital disruption in healthcare
S_HIFT, a series of research papers and bespoke, invitation only events, is a collaboration between Ogilvy and DHR, a partnership which brings together Ogilvy’s brand building and customer insight expertise with DHR’s specialist experience in talent transformation. The collaboration aims to help businesses adopt a holistic approach to digital transformation in areas such as branding, customer experience, technology advisory and talent leadership.

The latest report in the S_HIFT series, entitled ‘Bridging the Care Gap’, looks at the sweeping changes transforming healthcare in Asia Pacific. Patients are more informed than ever, and developments in AI, augmented reality and machine learning are transforming the healthcare experience. But the success of screens, apps and wearables that are changing the healthcare experience, still depends on human interaction. Digital transformation in the healthcare industry will fundamentally change the relationship between caregiver and patient, and healthcare providers that will successfully make the leap are those that will shape the patient journey through empathetic experiences.

Commenting on the findings of the report, Pierre Robinet, senior partner at Ogilvy Consulting said: “At a time when technology is redesigning healthcare boundaries and access to medicine, healthcare providers in Asia need to bridge the care gap to deliver more empathetic experiences."

The report identifies 5 key factors which form the foundation for successful healthcare strategies in APAC going forward:

  • Empathetic Care – Despite technological advances, the winners will be health care practitioners who address the person, not the disease.
  • Making Data Human – Communication of big data with a human approach and assurances of data privacy will be increasingly important in healthcare going forward.
  • Retailisation and Consumerisation - New platforms have moved the point of care out of the clinic, fundamentally changing the way patients and carers communicate. Harnessing technology can allow earlier and more proactive medical intervention.
  • Affordability – Financial partnerships and new ways of imagining insurance, credit and payment platforms can help to bridge the affordability gap of healthcare in Asia.
  • New Talent - Developing a patient-centric approach requires talent from outside the traditional healthcare skill pool.

The findings of the report have been presented at a series of invitation-only senior executive briefing sessions in key cities throughout Asia.

S_HIFT was created to help the C-suite clarify and simplify in a world of digital disruption, helping them to plan, implement and deliver long term strategic growth.

Jerry Smith, chief operating officer at Ogilvy explains the genesis of the S_HIFT series: “At the end of 2016 we conducted research across the region to better understand how prepared organisations are when it comes to the digital transformation of their business. Over 90% responded describing themselves as ‘somewhere on the journey’, however one of the biggest challenges identified was the ownership of the agenda in the boardroom. It was clear that transformation of this magnitude for any organisation transcends functions and departments. Collaboration holds the key.”
