OOH campaign delivered by Clear Channel engages young people to inspire them to seek advice and support
Newcastle Carers, a charity dedicated to providing information and support to adult unpaid carers in Newcastle, today announced the launch of a brand new advertising campaign that has been designed and created by a group of young adults with a caring role.

All of the young adult carers involved in creating the #WeCareToo campaign receive support from Newcastle Carers and feel that their lives would have been very different if they had received that support sooner; this inspired them to raise awareness about the information, advice and support that is available for carers so that other people in similar situations can get the help they need.

To create the campaign, the young people interviewed and selected design company Sail Creative, working with them to design billboards, posters, bus-stop banners and leaflets, to share their message far and wide. Their message is #WeCareToo.

The campaign runs across Newcastle in collaboration with out of home media owners Clear Channel, who are also donating additional media space to amplify the #WeCareToo message.
The campaign was officially launched with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at one of the billboard site locations opposite Newcastle City Library.

One in 12 young adults in Newcastle has a caring role, and often struggle with no support.  Many don’t identify themselves as carers. Georgia, 20, cares for her disabled mother and her autistic brother, both needing a lot of support. It takes time and energy to attend appointments, support them emotionally and help with day-to-day tasks.

“For a long time I didn’t realise that I was a carer, I didn’t realise that there was support out there for me. I am hoping that this campaign will help other people that are looking after a family member or a friend with an illness or disability to get support for themselves. I want to encourage anyone who has a caring role to contact Newcastle Carers, they can really help.”

Newcastle Carers were contacted by NHS England who had heard about the great support that was being provided to young adult carers in the city.  Lisa Cooper, Deputy Director of Quality and Safeguarding at NHS England North, met with a group of young adult carers and listened to their views and experiences. Then set them the challenge to think of ideas that would make a difference to young adult carers in Newcastle, this is how they developed the idea of creating a campaign.

Lisa Cooper, Deputy Director of Quality and Safeguarding at NHS England North, stated:  “I am honoured and humbled to have had the opportunity to work with these amazing young people and hear their voices, which are truly powerful and needed to be listened to.”

“The group’s professionalism, passion, leadership, creativity, insight and team work is truly inspirational. The City of Newcastle should be incredibly proud of these young adults”.
To create the campaign, the young people interviewed and selected design company Sail Creative, working with them to design billboards, posters, bus-stop banners and leaflets, to share their message far and wide. Their message is #WeCareToo.

“This project has been an all-round wonderful experience but the most important part for all of us has been working together on a big project that has an impact on the lives of other young adult carers,” commented young adult carer, Becca, 20. “The project aims to help young adult carers to be acknowledged, supported, realise that they are carers and they are not alone, there is help available.”
