June 27th is National Post-Traumatic Stress Disability (PTSD) Awareness Day, a special day created to increase understanding of the pervasive medical condition that can cripple a person’s ability to live a normal life.
A staggering one in five post-9/11 U.S. Veterans suffer from PTSD, but the current treatment aids available to them are limiting and often fail.
To help raise awareness and advocacy for the healing power of service dogs as a PTSD treatment aid, Merrick Pet Care released an online film, which follows the journey of U.S. Army Veteran Randy Dexter through the K9s For Warriors program as he is paired with his service dog, Captain. The touching story reinforces the benefits of pairing service dogs with U.S. Veterans affected by PTSD and shows how the program improved the life of Randy and his family.
