Merman Makes Double Signing to Roster

As Merman reach their first year anniversary of the Branded Commercials arm, they add two exciting new additions to their roster, Zak Emerson and Will Clark.

Zak is renowned for his cinematic style, emotional story-telling and ability to enhance the beauty in everyday things. He is a welcome addition to the increasingly diverse Merman team and we are more than thrilled to have him.

Will Clark is the CD at 4Creative and brings a wealth of creativity and humour across Branded Entertainment and Commercials.  His ability as a writer and creative, plus his commercial work for clients including VW, Plusnet and most recently, Jaguar featuring our very own Sharon Horgan makes him a sure fire hit in the Merman camp.

 

Zak Emerson studied Fine Art Painting at Central Saint Martins in London. He began his TV career as a storyboard artist and creative assistant under legendary ad man, Paul Arden at ASD. Not content with making pictures with mere brush and ink he turned to his attention to the camera. 

His first short film 'Suspended' was picked up by the British Council for representation and won the prestigious Stella Artois best short film award. And so the love affair with film began. He has since directed award-winning commercials for clients such as Adidas, Toyota, Three, Heineken, Nikon. HSBC and many others. 

In 2012, his Heineken 'Faking Of' spot smashed the 'making of' genre and landed awards across the board, including Cannes Lion Silver and Eurobest Grand Prix. In 2015, his heart warming family-focused spot for Toyota won at the The One Show. He has won various awards for hid short films and is currently cutting his third in a documentary series of arctic snowboard mountaineering projects. 

The First Day of Summer, has been a finalist at all the biggest adventure film festivals this winter season and won an Edmund Hillary award in the US. Zak's attention to detail, his ability to find the beauty in the everyday and his epic, cinematic, visual style makes him a wonderful storyteller.

Will has a serious pedigree in Comedy, having spent his early years making ‘silly stuff’ at MTV and swiftly moving onto the grown-up position of Creative Director at Comedy Central and ITV. His short film, ‘The Amazing Trousers’ starring Kris Marshall, Alice Eve and David Bamber was screened at Frightfest, the BFI London Film Festival, and selected at the TCM Short Film Awards, allowing him the platform he needed to hone his skills in the directing world. 

Utilising every opportunity he could procure along the way he combined his brilliant writing skills with directing and developed a wonderfully nuanced style of subtle comedy performance connected with a distinctive visual flair. His body of work include commercials for brands such as VW, Google, O2, C4, Plusnet, Capital FM, Fishermans Friend and The Sunday Times Unquiet Minds series, which picked up a Gold at the British Arrows Awards along with two Cannes Lions. 

Will is currently the Creative Director at E4 and Channel 4 Comedy at 4Creative and is moonlighting at Merman for anything else including commercials, branded content and long form projects.
