Brian's experience encompasses roles at Gap, Levi's and The North Face
Gear Patrol, a NYC-based lifestyle publication focused on the intersection of products and life’s pursuits, recently hired Brian Louie as head of commerce.

To assume his new position, Brian moved to New York from the Bay Area, where he held various commerce-related roles across well-known brands such as Gap Inc., Levi Strauss & Co. and The North Face. He most recently left the innovative e-commerce startup Drop, where he led buying for the community-inspired product company.

As head of commerce, Brian will source, merchandise and curate a compelling assortment of products to complement the lifestyles of Gear Patrol readers. Much like Gear Patrol’s online and print publication, his department’s aim is to introduce and educate Gear Patrol’s audience about brands, products and product categories to supplement life’s pursuits.

“I’ve been a fan of Gear Patrol for years, so when the head of commerce position appeared, I applied with a handful of short product reviews. Eric Yang, founder and CEO, identified me as a product nerd, so he reached out to me about the role and the opportunity,” explains Louie. “The more I learned about the company’s culture, mission and ambitions, the more I realized I couldn’t pass up this opportunity, so I upended my family’s quiet Northern California life and came east to New York City. I continue to be amazed by the quality, scope and output that comes out of this organization.”

Outside of work, Brian enjoys exploring the food and art scene around his new home base in Brooklyn with his wife and pets — a dog named Darby and cat named Hopper.
