Independent digital agency aims to boost wellness and drive creativity with new initiative

Lab, the independent digital agency that uses a blend of neuromarketing, psychology and behavioural economics to design, build and market digital brands and experiences, has today announced that it is to offer a four-day working week for all of its employees.

The move follows increasing reports of burnout from those working in the advertising and marketing industry, as well as the recent NABS research which revealed that two-thirds of marketers have considered leaving the industry because of poor workplace wellbeing.

Lab, which recently moved its London team into a brand-new space in the heart of Soho, is offering all its employees the option to work a four-day week, from Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday. Lab employees who take up the scheme will work their normal contracted weekly 37.5 hours over the course of four days, and will receive the same salary as before.

Following the launch of the four-day working week, Lab is conducting research into its impact on its people, and hopes to see an uplift in wellbeing, energy, creativity and productivity.

The initiative is part of Lab’s continued drive to create a better work/life balance for its people, and joins other policies including flexible working, remote working and birthday days off.

Jonny Tooze, Founder and Managing Director at Lab, said: “We believe in a digital future where everyone is free to do what they love, and where play is as important as work. We’re excited to give our people the opportunity to spend more time with friends and family, to enjoy their hobbies or to simply relax – and we think it will lead to better work for our clients, too.”

Tom Head, Joint Founder and Director at Lab, said: “After seeing the energy and enthusiasm in our teams increase after a recent three-day Bank Holiday weekend, we thought, why don’t we do this every week? It’ll give people more time to do what they love, to recharge and create some distance from their work, which we think will result in higher levels of creativity and productivity.”
