To capture the feeling of driving a Range Rover through the impressive scenery of the Angeles Crest Highway, high in the San Gabriel Mountains, Land Rover invited legendary film composer Hans Zimmer to take the journey himself, before creating a bespoke score for the picturesque drive.
Having scored more than 150 movies in a career that’s earned him an Academy Award (for The Lion King), Golden Globes (Gladiator, The Lion King) and Grammy Awards (The Lion King, Crimson Tide, The Dark Knight), he says the creative process for this task was different from any he’d approached.
In a branded film created by The Atlantic’s in-house agency Re:think we can see how Hans took inspiration from the landscape, the road and the car to compose the score. It's a unique chance to gain an insight into the craft of scoring a piece of moving image and an interesting way to put a new spin on the sort of car ad we're all familiar with.
