gyro, the global ideas shop, has appointed Kimberly Bates as Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer of its New York office. Bates joins gyro New York Managing Director Wendy Lurrie and Executive Creative Director Vito Zarrillo in leading the charge at this thriving office. In addition to leading strategy in New York, she will help ignite gyro’s innovation agenda globally.
Bates has over two decades of marketing experience within a wide breadth of verticals. Most recently she was Executive Planning Director at mcgarreybowen, leading an integrated strategy team across brand planning, social/digital strategy, communications planning, research and analytics.
She has also held leadership roles at PHD Worldwide, Publicis Kaplan Thaler, Arnell Group and Nielsen. Throughout her successful career, Bates has led strategic thinking & strategy teams for many of the world’s top companies including Pepsi, McDonald's, Google, Mercedes, Sony, Bank of America, Procter & Gamble, Revlon, Elizabeth Arden, Masterfoods, Unilever, Verizon, GSK, Pfizer, Chrysler, Lego, Old Navy and Footlocker.
Having run brand strategy at Time Warner Cable, Bates also offers the unique perspective of a client-side marketer. There she was responsible for the firm’s first company-wide corporate rebranding, and building the first internal communications strategy and planning department from the ground up.
“Kimberly possesses a unique combination of energy, innovative thinking and experience in all aspects of strategy. She will amplify all of our efforts to create powerful, humanly relevant solutions for our clients,” said Wendy Lurrie, Managing Director, gyro New York. “As business evolves and our clients needs evolve with ever-increasing velocity, it is more important than ever that we continue to turbo charge our strategic capabilities throughout our offerings. Kimberly is central to that effort.”
“Companies are going through historical digital transformation into software platforms to deliver their ideas, products, services and experiences. It’s both an exciting and confusing time. Brands are now a sum of not only their beliefs, but also behaviours. Communications have become a fluid stream of real-time interactions at the speed of tech & culture. These interactions need to be more humanly relevant and personalised to have meaningful impact on business decision making today,” said Bates. “That’s why I am thrilled to join an agency that is leading this new ‘business-to-people’ thinking in our industry and around the world.”
“Strategic thinking is one of the most important cornerstones for delivering great creative solutions for our clients,” said Christoph Becker, CEO+CCO, gyro. “Kimberly is an unconventional thinker, a true innovator, and a proven leader. We know only great things are to come.”
Outside of work, Kimberly is a Women’s Empowerment leader in the community. She founded The WSDM ™ (Wisdom), the first live wisdom sharing and well-being salon series & personal coaching for women of all ages and industries in New York City.
