Great Western Railway Recruit The Famous Five For Friends Electric Directed Adventure

Friends Electric direct the Famous Five in a beautifully animated adventure for GWR and Adam&Eve DDB. 

GWR have reignited the yesteryear thrill of the British railway with the help of Enid Blyton's 'The Famous Five'. In their integrated campaign Julian, George, Dick and Anne unwittingly embark on their very own Great Western adventure when Timmy, their mischievous dog, takes something of a detour..!

Friends Electric director Pete Candeland was perfectly positioned to lead the project with his unrivalled experience in both cel and 3D animation. As an exceptionally skilled draftsman and animator, Pete was able to translate Eileen Soper's original Famous Five book cover illustrations of the 1950's in to a contemporary design language that delivered a faithful depiction of the characters and an artistically stunning interpretation of Britain's bucolic landscapes.

The production took in 3D and 2D animation techniques but in order to deliver the authentic, final look Pete also adopted a further optical process whereby each frame was physically printed and carefully photographed to bake a 'real' paper texture in to the image that would be visible in the final composition. It was vital that each frame look like a piece of art in its own right.

In a world of slick CG, Friends Electric & Adam&Eve have created a campaign which takes us all back to a simpler time by carefully stitching together the best of traditional and cutting edge animation techniques.
