Sandstorm's Jason Dollery on handling the multiple and ever-growing demands of the digital age

Of course, you want your next campaign to be your best ever. You want to smash your targets so you can prove just how effective your approach is. But hold on a minute, isn’t the lion’s share of this year’s budget already allocated to the brand team’s new TV ad? Do you really think you have the time or resources to create something that can do better than that? You are not alone. Sandstorm predicted that this would happen, over ten years ago. We could see that the traditional agency model was dying. Why? It was too expensive and not responsive enough to handle the multiple and ever-growing demands of the digital age.

So we moved out of Soho and built a studio in Wiltshire. We put in movie-quality studios and full post-production facilities. That means we can create, edit, and version content – all in one space.

We’ve been helping people like you ever since. A long-standing client came to see us earlier this year and asked us to produce a suite of online content. They are a revolutionary brand so it’s hardly surprising that they should choose to work with a challenger like Sandstorm. We said we’d love to help. We made them some lovely cinematic films, with Dolby approved sound – so that if they ever needed to use that content in cinema or on TV we’d be able to do it for them at the drop of a hat. Six months later that’s exactly what did happen. It all cost a fraction of what it would have if the client had asked the above-the-line agency to help. And it took less time than it would have taken the agency producer to return the call and get a ‘ball-park’ cost from a traditional production company.
