Dior, Issey Miyake, Christian Louboutin, and Stella McCartney feature in this retrospective fashion commercial highlights
In the past few years, fashion advertising has continued to evolve in ever more creative ways. Amongst beautiful, glossy works, we’ve also seen fashion labels weighing in on politics (think Jigsaw’s ‘Heart Immigration’ campaign) and the emergence of CGI influencers and models such as Lil Miquela and Shudu. Against this backdrop, weird and wonderful campaigns have emerged, such as Balenciaga’s trippy collaboration with digital artist Yilmaz Sen. In this article, ENVY Advertising looks back at its most memorable fashion film highlights, from uber-chic, pastel-pink sets and dreamy, romantic getaways, to dance-inducing numbers and mesmerizingly surreal journeys…

Dior Homme – SS19

In this chic film, Dior’s Kim Jones debuts his first collection as the brand’s artistic director. The fashion house’s collab with American artist, KAWS, also makes a prominent appearance through his giant floral sculpture and X-eyed redesign of Dior Homme’s bee logo. Quick cuts and subtle effects perfectly underpin the film’s pastel pink colour-scheme and put the bold new clothing line front and centre (look out for diamante knuckle dusters spelling out Dior).

John Smedley – Modern Icons

Running with the summer theme, Natasja Fourie shoots this sun-drenched ‘Falling in Love’ campaign to launch John Smedley’s Icons collection. Set against the idyllic backdrop of clear blue skies, flower fields, sparklers, and white-sand beaches, it plays out as a uber-chic home video chronicling a young couple’s summertime romance. Shot on film, ENVY’s Danny Wood provides a timeless grade that complements the textured footage.

Stella McCartney – The RealReal

As the second-hand movement continues to gain steam, Stella McCartney and The RealReal partner to prove that luxury and sustainability don’t have to be mutually exclusive. The fun and high-energy campaign visualises their mission to extend the lifecycle of luxury items. The film shows various models mixing and matching clothing as it’s passed from one person to another – demonstrating how reselling can be fun and fashionable.

Issey Miyake - L’Eau D’Issey & L’Eau D’Issey Pour Homme

In this new campaign to promote Issey Miyake’s timeless new fragrance, we follow a mesmerising chain reaction through the fragrance’s different notes. The journey begins with a single water drop falling on to a water lily leaf. From there, it gains momentum, sending nutmegs tumbling between cinnamon sticks and limes and yuzu tumbling through geometric mazes and into sandalwood – a highly satisfying watch.

Brioni – Dolce Vita

Set against the lush backdrop of the Italian countryside, Brioni’s dreamy film follows a love-struck couple as they become a family. The sun-drenched film boasts incredible landscapes, delicious produce, stately architecture, and of course expertly-tailored clothing.

Christian Louboutin x Net-A-Porter

Fierce and upbeat, this stylish advert for Christian Louboutin x Net-A-Porter combines fashion with dance to showcase the fashion house’s collection. Set to a catchy drum beat, the film portrays women showing off their moves in a variety of different dance styles. Between the women’s confident dance moves and music, our attention is perfectly drawn to each of the fashionable pieces being displayed.
