Last Sunday David Bowie, one of the greatest artists and song writers of our time, passed away. But he has left behind a Bowie shaped imprint across the music industry.
Without Bowie’s musical existence, where would we be? There would be no glam, punk or new wave. No art-pop or new romantic music. There would be no Robert Smith or Marc Almond as both claimed Bowie changed their perceptions of not only music, but life itself. Definitely no Iggy Pop as David Bowie saved him from ‘annihilation’ and perhaps a less androgynous Boy George.
Here at Jeff Wayne Music, we have curated a playlist of fourteen songs from the 70’s to the 90’s to celebrate artists which claim they were highly influenced by David Bowie, and perhaps would not have been the artists they were without him. David Bowie was such a whirlwind of inspiration that he influenced artists across genres, throughout the world. Therefore, it was not possible (as much as we wanted to) to include all of them, so here’s some of our favourites.
(We really, really wish Prince was included in this playlist however his music is not available via streaming and therefore he couldn't be included. Silly Prince... )
Good night Starman. Thank you for everything.
