A Brazilian creative icon and one of the country’s most respected digital and data agencies become under the DDB Latina umbrella
In December 2018, DM9DDB Brazil’s creativity icon merged with Sunset one of the most respectable and innovative digital and data agencies in the market, which also belonged to the ABC Group, to become SunsetDDB. The first native biped agency to suit a storytelling hub propelled by the immense possibilities of technology and data.
This new chapter brings together the dynamic and talented 300 team members from both of the best and largest agencies in the country into one building to make extraordinary work inspired by data, fueled by the strong, creativity culture that identifies DDB.
DM9DDB’s more than 40 years of creative legacy brought pride and recognition to the industry and market. It was the only Brazilian agency named four times "Agency of the Year,” having won multiple Grand Prix awards and more than 130 Lions at the Cannes Festival. DM9DDB was an incubator of great professionals and it will continue to pass on the best of its heritage to this new project.
Guto Cappio, founder of Sunset, will lead the new agency as CEO, along with Ligia Vulcano and former DM9DDB Creative Guilherme Jahara, as co-presidents. Cappio is an industry benchmark and one of the most recognised creative directors in the country. Ligia joins from Sunset, where he was COO, with more than 17 years of experience in client leadership, digital marketing, and sales across Latin America. The multi-awarded veteran creative, Jahara, brings 26 years of experience, having worked with international brands such as Jeep, Fiat, Volkswagen, Audi, and AB-InBev, among others, and was ranked in the ‘Top 10 Creative Directors in the World’ in 2014.
Some of the clients that have joined the new SunsetDDB are Johnson & Johnson, Jeep, Fiat, OLX, Seara, Vigor, AB-Imbev, Itaú Bank, Reckitt Benckiser, and Walmart.
“I have deep admiration for DM9DDB and its professionals. Being able to be part of their new story makes me very happy," stated Guto Cappio, CEO of SunsetDDB.
“We consider ourselves a ‘living brand,’ and we understand it as always being ready to evolve, transforming ourselves and everyone around us. Because evolving is not an option, it is a constant necessity, inherent of life. SunsetDDB was born focused on the future and thinking beyond than just advertising, but the future of communication with technology,” added Jahara, co-president of SunsetDDB.
“The native biped agency model responds to the fourth Industrial Revolution and is the result of the market’s accelerated transformation that requires our fast, intelligent and strategic response. We are confident that this new agency model will open a new chapter for our talent and clients. It unites the power of creativity and the tremendous possibilities of data, all in one place,” shared Juan Carlos Ortiz CEO of DDB Latina Group.
SunsetDDB complements the robust portfolio of agencies with marketing and communications specialties that DDB Latina has implemented in the Brazilian market since the ABC Group joined the Omnicom Group back in 2015.
DDB Latina Group’s Brazilian portfolio also includes Tribal Worldwide, specialising in digital transformation, TRACK, adding the know-how of data to generate intelligent marketing across the consumer’s digital journey; TracyLocke, the Group’s retail point-of-sale agency, specialized in best-in-class shopper marketing practices; Africa Agency, an authority in creativity and storytelling, and CDN, experts in Public Relations.
