Cutting Edge Completes Post on ABC1 Drama Series Janet King
Created as a spin-off from the 2011 legal drama Crownies, Cutting Edge got stuck into legal thriller Janet King, a drama series airing on ABC1. It follows the story of a senior crown prosecutor who returns from maternity leave and is thrown into a shocking prosecution.
Originally commissioned for an eight part series, Janet King was then renewed for a further eight episodes, which began airing in late March 2016.
The team at Cutting Edge was trusted with the complete package of rushes, editorial, conform, grade, online, VFX and delivery.
Working alongside veteran director of photography Joe Pickering, Cutting Edge colourist Dwaine Hyde said a contrasting look and feel to the series was created that then conveyed really well on-air.
“The project moved super smoothly from a perfect post environment to broadcast because it had quite a strong and distinct feel to it – the colour tones were a little hard edged in some places whilst also being subdued,” he said. “It’s a look and feel developed by myself, the DOP and the producers, which the client was really happy with.”
Janet King Producer Lisa Scott said: “Cutting Edge did an outstanding job on the picture post production of Janet King Series 2. From trouble free on-site AVID suites at our production office, to the masterful grading by Dwaine Hyde and the extraordinary attention to detail from the on-line editor, Jo Spillane, we were in good hands all the way through the series. Nothing was too much trouble”.
