Matt will judge Europe's oldest ad awards

Cult, one of the world’s fastest growing independent creative agencies, confirms their ECD, Matt Watson will be joining the judging panel for The Creative Circle Awards, the educational body dedicated to celebrating creativity in British advertising. Matt will also be joining the judges for The Webby’s, the awards for excellence on the Internet.

Cult is a fiercely independent creative agency that believes in embracing the unknown. They specialise in the fashion, beauty, luxury and wellness sectors and are proud to only work with people that are willing to break new ground. Matt has won awards including DMAs, Creative Circle, OMMA, Hermes, MOMAs and W3’s Webby’s and was shortlisted for Cannes Young Lions when he was 25. At Cult he champions creativity and innovation for clients including YULA, Marc Jacobs, MAC, Nike LDN and Kopari. He is a Pitch Futures mentor, helping school children get into creative industries, and is a part of the D&AD new blood program. He has been on the Jury for Campaign Big Awards, DMA’s and D&AD’s among many others

“I am looking for game-changing ideas, ones that disrupt the norm and demand change from consumers and audiences. I will also be looking closely at craft to see where the craft has been pushed and challenged in a fresh new approach. If the concept feels complex or overproduced, I will mark it down, for me the simplistic nature of any idea and the way that idea is executed will be crucial in this realm. And most importantly I listen to my gut, and if I get that feeling of ‘I wish I had done that’ – I’ll give it what it deserves.” said Matt Watson, ECD Cult

Founded in 2012 by Bridey Lipscombe and Cat Turner, Cult launched a New York studio in 2018, a global production house in 2019, and now have over 40 staff and an annual turnover of $6.8m (£5.5m). The agency is planning to open a further studio in LA next year following a series of West Coast new business wins. Cult have worked with icons including Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Vivienne Westwood and Lady Gaga.

The categories Matt will be judging for Creative Circle will be Charity and Public service, Digital - best conceptual idea, Digital - best mobile campaign, Digital - best social campaign, Experiential, Best low budget idea, Best PR-led idea, Best new talent – director, Best creative newcomer.
