To announce ACV’s new cover for bicycles, El Colony’ director Josh Dawson brought a restless crash-test dummy to life. Frustrated by the constrictive life of repeatedly destroying cars, our plastic protagonist looks far and wide for a new vocation. Nothing quite satisfies him until he discovers the freedom of cycling.
From the onset of the project Josh was lucky enough to be involved with the development of the idea, writing the script together with the agency, Dunkelfeld GmbH. With a limited budget and about two minutes of running time, the project became more of a short film then a commercial, which is a great thing to have for the story. The post house Don Don worked absolute magic throughout the whole of the production. Josh and DonDon used actor's performance through motion capture as well as animating to get the best lifelike movement, bringing the dummy to life. Early on the dummy became a "he" and not an "it", both on and off screen.
The project received some fantastic praise, comments and 4 million views in 3 months.
