Today, eBay.co.uk, is launching its new Christmas campaign, featuring the new global brand campaign 'It’s happening on eBay'. The campaign, now launching in the UK, taps into eBay’s relevance on a cultural and personal level, embracing the varied ways that people may choose to celebrate the season this year.

As cultures are shifting, people are constantly embracing new influences and mixing these with their favourite traditions. With 'If it’s happening this Christmas, it’s happening on eBay', the campaign celebrates eBay’s role in helping people make the most of the holiday season, with everything they need to prep, celebrate or gift.

Gareth Jones, chief marketing officer, eBay UK said: “At least one person in every household in the UK uses eBay, and we understand that we serve different purposes in people’s lives. Our campaign is about celebrating the unique ways people will enjoy the season and reinforcing that eBay is a destination to find whatever they are looking for.”

Created with partner agency 72andSunny Amsterdam: “If it’s happening this Christmas, it’s happening on eBay” includes seven different films featuring real people in relatable situations, showing how each family is unique and how eBay can help them make this season memorable. The films touch on traditional Christmas celebrations, all while leaving enough space for individual expression to have a home on eBay.

Directed by Leonardo Cosme, from 72andSunny Amsterdam, the colourful and vibrant videos feature UK’s modern ways of celebrating together. Like the mums’ night out where Anna Whitehouse (a.k.a Mother Pukka) waves at her husband and baby over Facetime while clubbing with her friend, or Daddy & Dad (advocates for same-sex parent adoption) together with their kids, making the house Christmas-ready.

The overall positivity of the creative work is supported by the song ‘New Thing’ (of Bonti) that was released with the launch of the ‘It’s Happening’ campaign across all markets. “Open-up your eyes, you’re about to see a new thing” ties nicely with the many ways in which people can personalise the holidays with eBay. Like YouTuber Cherry Wallis, who unboxes a Harry Potter-themed Lego set in a magical way, or Tomi Adebayo, known as GadgetsBoy, who’s dancing with his new headphones on. Whether using sparkling pizza slices as tree decoration or the festive golden wine glasses to toast with your family, the e-commerce platform wants everyone to know ‘If it’s happening this Christmas, it’s happening on eBay’.

“Our latest work shows eBay as a reflection of everything current, relevant and interesting that’s taking place in the world and happening in people’s lives right now. We show how eBay connects to the world around us with products that fuel people's passions whatever they’re into,” says Matt Firth, creative director at 72andSunny Amsterdam.

The global creative approach was developed in close collaboration of both offices, 72andSunny LA and Amsterdam. 72andsunny Amsterdam was responsible for the UK and rest of Europe leg of eBay’s Christmas campaign. With the global 'It’s happening on eBay' brand proposition as the strategic backbone, the European flight of the campaign includes 16 individual films for TV as well as Bus wraps, OOH, DOOH including the iconic Piccadilly screen, Radio, Social etc.

For the 'If it’s happening this Christmas, it’s happening on eBay' campaign, eBay UK also worked with partner agencies Mediacom, Rubber Republic, Craft and Feed.
