Chemistry Dublin Lends Hand to Campaign for The Advertising Benevolent Society
TABS is an association that helps advertising people who have fallen on hard times
The Advertising Benevolent Society (TABS) helps people from the advertising industry and their families who are in need. Generally, it’s because of ill health, unemployment or family circumstances. The types of supports provided are for school costs, medical bills, living expenses, re-employment etc.
TABS has charitable status and has been in existence for over 60 years. Funds are raised via individual and corporate donations, bequeaths and events (e.g. quiz nights, Battle of the Bands, golf classics, fun runs).
While for confidentiality reasons, TABS never reveals details of the people they help, most people who have been in the business for some time will know (of) somebody who has been helped by TABS. The trouble is that people who have been in the business for a shorter time don’t fundraise and, should any of them need assistance, they don’t even know about TABS. So TABS wanted to make everyone who works in the advertising business, especially younger people, aware of TABS and, should they know of someone who needs the help of TABS (including themselves), to encourage them to get in touch.
In order to achieve these objectives, TABS asked 10 Irish agencies to develop and produce a pro bono ad for TABS, to appear as full pages in Ireland’s main marketing publications. This was Chemistry’s contribution. The copywriter was Rob Maguire, the art director, Fabiano Dalmácio, who also produced the illustration.
