Director of Drunk History Derek Waters shoots new spot for 'Finally, It’s Easy' campaign

In Autotrader’s first work with global creative agency, 72andSunny New York, the creative dispels the ideology that car buying has been a major nuisance throughout history.

By using a different route in the new campaign, 'Finally, It’s Easy', the film highlights moments of history like the Nordic Bronze Age when car buying was a real flat tire.

In his first traditional advertising campaign, Derek Waters, Emmy-nominated director and creator of Drunk History, directs the films and helps make history with the campaign.

“Buying a car is an emotional process,” said, Greta Crowley, vice president of marketing, Autotrader. “In a new direction for Autotrader, the campaign diffuses the stress of car buying with humour and brings the fun and personality back into the shopping experience. We want the journey of finding the right car for you to be just as enjoyable as your time in it.”

“There's a deep commitment from Autotrader to take the pain and uncertainty out of car buying. Which is pretty awesome because, since the dawn of humankind, car buying has been incredibly painful and filled with scepticism,” said Bryan Rowles, executive creative director and partner, 72andSunny New York. “This campaign has some fun with the historical drama around car buying that we can all relate to, while offering up Autotrader as the (finally) easy, fast and reassuring option.”

Director Derek Waters comments: "It was a really great experience. It was great playing with history in the commercial world," said Derek Waters. "Truly a fun learning experience and think we made some good spots. Hoping they end up airing for a while and that there’s more to come.”

The 'Finally, It’s Easy' campaign will air nationally across cable, radio, network and streaming television platforms, digital, social and major programming including MLB Playoffs, NFL Monday Night Football and NBA season kickoff.
