Get back in touch with your authentic creative self on the colourful, quirky Irish Riviera

It’s not long now until one of the quirkiest and most creative festivals in the ad industry calendar kicks off. Kinsale Sharks takes place on the stunning ‘Irish Riviera’, a town that blends whimsical charm with a down-to-earth authenticity. And where better to rejuvenate your creative muscles than in a technicolor seaside town?
Whether you’re a regular at Kinsale or a Sharks newbie, the team have come up with some great tips to help you make the most of the intimate and (let’s be real, now) totally Instagrammable festival.
Mark Hanrahan, Director of the Kinsale Shark Awards, is the man to talk to if you want to get a taste of what’s in store…
"Kinsale is a really beautiful place, a sleepy picturesque Irish fishing village on the wild Atlantic coast of South West Ireland, just 20 minutes from Cork, that springs to life when the Advertising community comes to town.  At the Festival, you meet proper people, eat, drink and have a great time with them, and proper business actually does get done! We have loads of examples of people who met at the festival more than 20 years ago and are still doing business with each other.  An unknown fact, but Kinsale is actually Ireland's gourmet capital, there’s a plethora of great restaurants and pubs, so all in all, it’s an ideal setting for a Creative Festival.”

This year's Kinsale Sharks Festival is Thursday 22nd to Saturday 24th September - to find out how to attend click here.

1. Get an Eyeful of Exciting New Talent

Between the short film screenings at and the New Directors award, there will be plenty of cracking work and exciting new talent to uncover

2. Swimming at Sandy Cove

For those who really want to get back to nature and give their creative senses a shock, how about a dip in the Atlantic? Remember to check the tides and head out in a group.

3. Boat Trips to the Old Head
Take a boat out to this rocky outcrop to check out the stunning 17th century lighthouse – and even take in a round of golf if that, err, floats your boat.

4. Visit to Charles Fort

Immerse yourself in Irish history with a visit to the ruined Charles Fort at the Southern edge of the village of Summer Cove.

5. Mr Bingo Gets Real

The self-styled ‘Justin Bieber of pens’ is just one of the many great speakers that Creative Social have corralled for this year’s festival.

6. Meet the Jury sessions at The Lord Kingsale Pub

A jury session in an Irish pub! It surely doesn’t get any better? This is your chance to quiz the juries and find out what trends and themes emerged from this year’s entries.

7. Crab Claws and Bloody Marys at The Spaniards

This old pub and restaurant is a popular haunt with Kinsale Sharks attendees and we hear the fresh crab claws are something no foodie can resist.

8. Set Instagram to Stun!

With brightly coloured shops, pubs and houses clashing joyfully, there will be plenty of #NoFilter gems to be had.

9. Get Your Disco On at the White Lady

After a couple of days of creative inspiration and networking, you’ll be ready for a bit of a dance – and the White Lady Hotel hosts DJs and live music so you can boogie your socks off.

10. Fishy Fishy

It would be churlish to head all the way out to the Wild Atlantic Way and not try some of the local seafood. Fishy Fishy is one local restaurant that comes highly recommended, by the Kinsale Sharks team, by TripAdvisor, by everyone. And if the weather gods are smiling on you, there’s also a beautiful outdoor eating area.

11. Feed the Seagulls on the Harbour Wall…

… but if it all goes a bit Tippy Hedron, don’t blame us!

12. Celebrate the Winners

Finish off the festival with the Awards show and dinner at the Acton Hotel. Who will be swimming home with one of the coveted, toothy trophies? Stay tuned!

13. Head off Around Wild Atlantic Way

Why not use your trip to Kinsale as a springboard to explore the rest of Ireland’s wild westcoast? The Wild Atlantic Way is a spectacular coastal touring route that stretches 1500 miles. Ah go on…
