Joe Waldron recently worked with Contagious Magazine to create the illustrations for an interview with best-selling authors W Chan Kim & Renèe Mauborgne about how brands can identify new growth opportunities. Their 2005 book, Blue Ocean Strategy, outlined how brands can move away from crowded markets (red oceans) to find new areas where competition is non-existent (blue oceans). In 2017, the authors published a follow-up, Blue Ocean Shift, which takes the learnings from the first book and provides readers with a step-by-step guide on identifying new growth opportunities and making competition irrelevant. The piece covers the main points from Blue Ocean Shift and what they mean for brands and marketing agencies. Joe's job, was to bring the concept of Blue Ocean / Red Ocean to life in a striking way. We think he pulled through on this one.
