LED light project marries creative sound with technological innovation

NONOTAK and Wave Studios present NUMBERS, an LED light exhibition and sound project that takes numbers, budgets and statistics and converts them into art.

Showcased at Wave Studios for the first time on Wednesday (12th), the experiential project combines the talents of NONOTAK’s Takami Nakamoto and Noemi Schipfer with Wave Studios’ Sound Designers, whose collaborative track syncs up to an impressive visual exhibition.

The audience on the night were also able to experience Wave Studios’ new Dolby Atmos system. Their new Dolby Atmos Suite is the first in the world to be running through an Exigy Atmos setup.

NONOTAK, who specialise in creative immersive audio-visual environments, team up with Wave for the forward-thinking display, fresh from showcasing at the Late At Tate: Transform exhibition in London’s Tate Britain.

Sarah Giles, Creative Producer at Wave Music, comments: “We are thrilled to work with the incredibly talented NONOTAK. We’re always keen to collaborate with art and creative sound - it’s so important and a lot more interesting to embrace innovative projects as technology develops. We’re excited to be exploring experiential projects and this will hopefully be the first of many.”

NUMBERS marries creative sound with technological innovation, combining the NONOTAK-designed LED window display with sound elements supplied by Wave to create striking results.

“After spending time at Wave we wanted to create something to do with the values that music and sound involves,” explains NONOTAK. “We thought it would be poetic to have light numbers while passengers are passing along the window display and to set the scene for arriving clients. It tells a little story in relationship with the city, its movements, it’s just narrative in a way that gently brings to life visually the artistic nature of the studios inside - beautiful, digital, and carefully considered.”

The elements of the track were created by the Wave Sound Designers, which NONOTAK then turned into a track that syncs alongside the exhibition space, fusing the collaborative visual art and sound technology.

Guests were also able to experience Wave’s new Dolby Atmos suite on the night. Tony Rapaccioli, Dolby Atmos Engineer at Wave Studios, comments: “Wave is about excellence in audio and sound and, at this moment in time, Dolby Atmos is the ultimate in sound mixing. Dolby Atmos gives you so much more of an immersive soundscape and we’re excited that we can utilise it to push things to a new level creatively.”

Following on from a recent live performance by legendary hip-hop DJ Grandmaster Flash, NUMBERS is the latest in a series of events to be showcased by Wave & Wave Music, and is worth a trip to Wave to experience whilst it’s still there.
