Vox Media has announced that Meridith Webster will join Vox Media as its first chief communications officer. Meridith brings nearly two decades of strategic communications expertise and a wealth of experience across the public and private sectors.

Reporting directly to Vox Media CEO Jim Bankoff, Meridith will oversee external and internal communications, corporate marketing and public affairs.

“I’m thrilled to join Vox Media,” said Meridith Webster. “I’ve always been impressed with Vox Media’s foundation of establishing deep, lasting connections with its audiences. I’m excited to build on the team’s success and help the company continue to set a new standard at the forefront of innovation in communications, storytelling and programming.”

Meridith comes to Vox Media from Emerson Collective where she led their public affairs practice, focusing on high profile advocacy campaigns and creating powerful storytelling tools.

Prior to Emerson, as global head of public affairs at Bloomberg L.P. and Bloomberg Philanthropies, Meridith managed the expansion of the business and foundation public affairs and communications functions in Washington, New York and globally.

At the Obama White House, Meridith served as senior advisor to two White House Chiefs of Staff, Rahm Emanuel and Pete Rouse. She also served as deputy chief of staff to Susan Rice, at the time the United States ambassador to the United Nations, with a purview of overseeing her DC Office and managing Ambassador Rice’s public affairs.

She has also directed communications and served as a trusted advisor to former U.S. secretary of state Madeleine Albright, worked as an associate attorney at Latham & Watkins, and worked at the Clinton White House and State Department before earning her law degree at Georgetown University Law Center.

Meridith will begin her new role next week, and will continue to be based in Washington, DC.
