Stitch editor pores over 200 hours of rushes of a real family's festive celebrations

The seasonal ads are coming out thick and fast this week and TalkTalk is offering is a bona fide affair with their offering the only one showing genuine footage of a family Christmas.

Documenting a real family during last year’s festivities, this totally unscripted, fly-on-the-wall advert sees the return of the Merwick Street family – and their dog, Elvis.

Directed by Park Pictures’ Tom Tagholm and cut by Tim Hardy, the team employed the same multi camera techniques that were used on the 2016 ‘This Stuff Matters’ campaign.

An incredible 17 cameras were used over the four-day festive period, located across eight rooms and including a remote controlled car!  The cameras were rolling from 6:50am on Christmas Eve and typically rolled until midnight on most days, accumulating in over 200 hours of rushes that were edited down into this 60” spot. In lessons learned from last year’s shoot, that was shot continuously, this time loggers were in place to identify moments the rooms were empty.

“I love working with Tom,” said his long time editor, Tim.  “It was quite a task to have so much footage but I think we managed to capture the magic and madness of a proper family Christmas.”
