Revolver collective collaborate with Jonsi & Alex for Host Sydney ads

Tourism WA (Western Australia) has commissioned two short films which will be appearing in cinemas around Australia from this Sunday.

The films celebrate the positive effects of witnessing Western Australia’s extraordinary landscapes first hand.

In connecting with the landscape, people get to reconnect with someone they love.

The first journey sees a young couple tour the diverse region of Australia’s South West – taking in rugged coastlines, beach wilderness, vineyards, forests, caves and spectacular ranges.

The second sees an older couple journey through the Kimberly region of Australia’s North West – from the raw, dusty beauty of The Bungle Bungle Range to the vibrant coloured coastline at Broome along the Gibb River Road.

Tourism WA and its agency Host, Sydney commissioned award-winning creative collective The Glue Society to write and direct the films. And the team approached Jonsi and Alex to collaborate with them on something suitably extraordinary.

The Glue Society point out: “Mundane things that occupy our everyday lives kind of disrupt who we actually want to be – this tends to get in the way of all the good things we hope for. And it is usually our relationships which suffer.

Exploring the wide-open landscape of WA – and experiencing something truly spectacular - actually brings you closer to the people you are travelling with.

Literally, the sense of space has an extraordinary power to help you reconnect with those you love.”

To bring the films an emotional, rather than literal, impact - The Glue Society featured real couples in the films. And for the soundtrack, Jonsi and Alex composed and produced an original soundtrack for the stories, entitled ‘Open Your Eyes’.

Within their stunning composition and performance, the musicians have captured both the cinematic drama of the landscape – and the intimacy of the couples.

As a result of music and image, the films are both hauntingly beautiful and emotionally inspiring.

As The Glue Society say: “Extraordinary is a very hard word to live up to. But in collaborating with the unique creative talents of cinematographer Rob Marsh and musicians Jonsi and Alex, we believe we have delivered something that does just that.”
