CCO Andy Jex makes first creative appointments

Under the refreshed creative leadership of TBWA\London’s new Chief Creative Officer, Andy Jex, the agency has made its first creative team appointment: Ben Brazier and Johnny Ruthven.

"Not too long ago I pitched against Ben and Johnny. Needless to say they won,” says Jex. “So I’m delighted to say they’re joining TBWA\London to teach me a thing or two”.

With a portfolio of work decorated by the One Show, British Arrows and D&AD, Brazier and Ruthven have created award-winning campaigns for Royal Navy’s Made in the Royal Navy, Medecins Sans Frontieres, Mastercard and Heinz. They decided to bring this talent to TBWA\London because “it’s got great creative DNA, and a ton of renewed energy and ambition.”

After meeting in 2005 on the Watford Creative Advertising Course, the team spent five years honing their skills at McCann London, where they helped the agency become Campaign Agency Of The Year in 2009. After a brief but eventful stay at Hypernaked, which saw them make a giant thumb out of three tonnes of chocolate for the Cadbury campaign ‘Thanks a million’, they moved to WCRS for a six-year spell as senior creatives.

So far, Brazier and Ruthven’s career highlights include pitching for B&Q twice and winning both times, plus finding out that The Army asked its creative agency to mimic the duo’s award-hogging ‘Made in the Royal Navy’ campaign. With Brazier as a keen photographer and Ruthven as a short story author, the team has plenty of extra curricular interests to keep them inspired, including pitching programme ideas to Channel 4.
