'Are You Hungry,' a new short comedy written by creative agency Superson Singapore’s managing partner and creative director Antti Toivonen, has been selected for a world premiere in the Short Cuts program of the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

The film, directed by Helsinki-based Teemu Niukkanen, is an edgy yet wholly endearing comedy about an overprotective mother struggling to connect with her adopted teenage son, leading to a cascading series of calamities. TIFF had over 4500 short film submissions this year, with just 55 making it to the festival’s program. Antti commented: “With an attendance of 480,000, TIFF is considered one of the A-list film festivals alongside Cannes, Berlinale, Venice Biennale and Sundance, and we are thrilled to have made the cut. We make these films mostly because we like to have fun, but also to remind ourselves that we need to think outside the advertising box.

“Storytelling is such an industry buzzword these days, yet much of it can be quite hollow. As Superson Singapore’s managing director, I take pride in getting my hands dirty with the craft, creating culturally-relevant, thought-provoking pieces that push the envelope in the real world, not just within our own industry bubble.”

Antti and Teemu previously collaborated on another short film, titled 'F*cking Bunnies,' which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2017 and screened at over 100 festivals around the world. The film went on to pick up ten international film awards. A veteran in the creative industry, Antti has over ten years of Southeast Asian experience with networks such as TBWA, Ogilvy and R/GA.

Antti is also co-writer and co-producer of Singaporean feature film ‘Tiong Bahru Social Club’ that is scheduled for a cinematic release in 2020. Additionally, he has written for a new eight-episode Ministry of Funny original being produced for HOOQ, a video on-demand streaming service by Sony Pictures, Warner Bros. and SingTel.

“These projects are a paradigm of Superson’s ethos, where like-minded independent creators come together to do their best work. We are all about people who have made their passion their calling. Flexing the creative muscle in one’s own area of expertise is a big part of our DNA. We work with passionate people who are on top of their game and are constantly looking to outdo themselves,” Antti said.
