Adam Smyth joins from McCann Craft

Award-winning sound designer, composer and mix engineer, Adam Smyth, is the latest signing to join the growing String and Tins team.

Adam joins String and Tins from McCann Craft, where he worked as senior sound designer and composer with clients including Xbox, Subway, Mastercard and Wimbledon. Prior to this, Adam spent eight years at Soho Square Studios where he worked on a multitude of TV and Feature projects, gaining credits on the likes of Star Trek: Beyond, Nocturnal Animals and mixing BAFTA nominated short film ‘Bobby Yeah’.

Adam’s audio career was inspired by his upbringing. He was introduced to music and sound from an early age, with his father and godfather both working as broadcast engineers and his grandfather a jazz pianist. Realising his passion for sound design, he went on to study Audio Engineering at Alchemea College, London.

Since then, Adam has garnered a wealth of experience across commercial, TV, radio and film, picking up awards at some of the industry’s most revered awards shows including the Kinsale Sharks, British Arrows, the LIAs, the Creative Circle, the Clios and the Aerial awards.

Notable recent projects by Adam include the sound design and mix for Wimbledon’s ‘In Pursuit of Greatness: Take On History’ – the celebrated animated ad which follows the Tennis competition’s history. One of his biggest award-winners was Cow & Gate’s ‘Supergroup’ (2012). The adorable spot sees a group of babies and toddlers explore a recording studio full of musical instruments. As they start to make some noise, their spontaneous bashing and strumming of the equipment cleverly pulls together into a fully formed instrumental version of ‘Come on Eileen’. The advert won a number of awards including the best use of music at Eurobest, a gold at the Clio Awards and best re-record at the International Music Awards.

Commenting on his appointment at String and Tins, Adam says, “It was an easy choice coming to String and Tins and joining the incredibly talented team is an honour! I’ve always admired their work. I feel very privileged to be able to learn and evolve with some of the best sound designers in Europe.”

Adam adds: “I’m really looking forward to working with String and Tins’ amazing clients, to bringing my own style and vibe to the work and annoying Will and Mike with a tonne of questions about synths!”

Will Cohen, Founding Partner at String and Tins comments: “Adam is a rare talent, both in terms of his sound design work and also his music composition and performance. I’m chuffed that he’s joined our team. I reckon we have a great deal to learn from each other… I’m lining up my paradiddle classes as we speak!”

Co-Founder at String and Tins, Mike Bamford, adds, “Adam brings 10 years of experience. His body of work shows he's equally as comfortable mixing a music track as he is a detailed sound piece. Just listen to this year's BBC Wimbledon promo which he sound designed and mixed. It's no easy job to get all those sounds to cut through with such a massive music track vying for your attention. I'm super excited to have him in the team!"
