US radio airplay performance sees Sony/ATV Music Publishing top the rankings five years in a row
The company attained this landmark achievement after occupying first place on the latest quarterly publisher rankings based on U.S. radio performance. It is Sony/ATV’s 20th consecutive quarter at #1, and that adds up to a full five years at being No. 1.

The rankings are compiled every three months by Billboard and are determined by music publishers’ market share of the top 100 U.S. radio airplay songs for the last quarter, according to Nielsen Music data and song splits compiled by the Harry Fox Agency. The latest survey covers the period April to June 2017.

Sony/ATV Chairman and CEO Martin Bandier said: “Being in first place for five years doesn’t happen by accident, but is a tribute to the immense talent of our songwriters, the amazing songs they create and the hard work of our team. It is an amazing accomplishment and one we are very proud of.”

For its 20th consecutive quarterly victory, Sony/ATV achieved a 23.3% market share and was represented on 49 of the top 100 songs on U.S. radio during Q2 2017. Nine of the quarter’s Top 10 radio songs are co-published by Sony/ATV, led by the Bruno Mars hit “That’s What I Like”, which is the period’s No. 1 hit, and “Shape Of You”, which was co-written and performed by Sony/ATV songwriter Ed Sheeran, at No. 2. The Sheeran hit spent 12 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s weekly Radio Songs airplay chart, the joint longest chart-topping run on the chart this decade.

Sony/ATV’s other big radio hits during the quarter include the No. 3-ranked “Something Just Like This” by The Chainsmokers & Coldplay, “Stay” by Zedd feat. Alessia Cara at No. 4 and “It Ain’t Me” by Kygo feat. Selena Gomez at No. 5. Sony/ATV songwriter Alessia has a second song in the quarter’s Top 10 with “Scars To Your Beautiful” at No. 10.

Sony/ATV’s other songs in the period’s Top 10 include at No. 9 “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber. Since the end of the quarter, “Despacito” has extended its run at No. 1 on the weekly Billboard Hot 100 chart to 13 weeks, one of only 11 songs to have ruled this long, and it became the first-ever predominantly non-English song to top the all-format Radio Songs airplay chart. It is currently attracting a U.S radio audience of more than 140 million listeners every week.

Below are Sony/ATV’s songs in the Q2 Top 10, alongside Nielsen Music’s quarterly chart ranking:

No. 1 “That’s What I Like” by Bruno Mars (Sony/ATV(s) writer Ray Romulus)
