Slim Pictures Signs Berlin-based Directing Duo Pet & Flo

Venice-based production company Slim Pictures is thrilled to announce the signing of Peter Goeltenboth & Florian Giefer, better known as Pet & Flo. With their blend of unique in-camera effects and stunning stop motion visuals, the Berlin-based directing duo bring to the celebrated Slim roster a spirited handmade aesthetic unlike any other.  Already, Slim have seamlessly crossed-over to the US market with spots for Yoplait via Bromley and Nature Valley out of McCann Erickson NYC. 

Pet & Flo met while attending school together in London, getting their start directing in-camera, effects-driven music videos in the 90’s.  In 2000 the pair founded the Berlin-based production house filmlounge and begun broadening their portfolio to include commercials, web campaigns, viral videos, documentaries, animations and even visuals for live music. 

The German duo developed their inventive style early on, with an emphasis on the handcrafted. Pet & Flo explain their approach to storytelling, saying, “This handcrafted and organic thing is the answer to CGI. CGI has gotten so advanced that people cannot distinguish the difference between reality and computer effects anymore. But sometimes people want to see something that you can touch, that is more crafted. You want to see the labor behind it.” 

Both Pet & Flo handle all directorial duties equally, from the casting to art direction to operating the stop motion rigs. Not limited to simply being stop motion wizards, Pet & Flo’s expertise includes working with front-screen projections, miniature puppets, hand-cut animations, time-lapse techniques, Rube Goldberg machines, and so on. The result is some of the most fantastical and surreal imagery in advertising today, as seen in projects for major brands including Olympus, BMW, and Coca Cola.

Pet & Flo have been honoured with trophies from juries internationally, including the Effie Grand Prix (France), Venus Creative Club (Austria), the London International Awards, ECHO, the ADC, the VDW Awards and the Davey Awards, as well as taking home Silver at the NYC Festival.

Pet & Flo’s playful and inviting visual style places them perfectly among the eclectic group of filmmakers represented by Slim Pictures. Since founding the boutique production company in 2010, Executive Producer Tom Weissferdt has carefully curated the Slim roster, assembling a select few award-winning visionaries from different parts of the world.
