Academy to inspire young people to think about media, technology or business careers

Leading marketing agency RPM, has collaborated with Sky Academy to help design the new Sky Academy Careers Lab experience, from conception, to build, user testing and launch.

Following the success of Sky Academy Skills Studios which launched in 2012, this latest initiative from Sky Academy aims to inspire young people to think about possible careers in Media, Technology or Business and to help them build the practical skills they will need in the workplace.

Students will get hands on experience of life at Sky, including interviewing one of Sky’s senior leaders about working in the industry, and they will also get the opportunity to work alongside Sky staff on a practical challenge, helping them to match their interests to a possible career. Around 100 young people are expected to visit the facility every week.

The experience is supported by a bespoke iPad application to guide each student through their day, allowing them to unlock content on an interactive wall installation, saving this and other information to their timeline so they can log in and continue the experience at home.

Dom Robertson, Managing Director at RPM said: “We’ve been working with the Sky Academy Skills Studios team for four years now and we were thrilled to take on this new challenge to design Sky Academy Careers Lab. It’s an exciting and important offering within their portfolio which sees them

truly walk the talk and bridge the gap between the Sky Academy Skills Studios experience and work placement opportunities.”

The app guides teams through interactive challenges that replicate real world working briefs, providing resources to facilitate important decisions, calculate budgets and even react to changes in budget and expectations coming in live.

Bella Vuillermoz at Sky Academy said: “This project has been created as part of our ambition to create opportunities for 1 million young people by 2020.  We want to help young people prepare themselves for the world of work by developing their skills and interests and our Sky Academy Career Lab will be the perfect platform to do this.”
