Seven Sunday Films has announced the signing of award-winning New Zealand based director Harold Monfils in South East Asia.

A multi-disciplinary director, with a 30-year career spanning commercials and feature documentaries, Monfils launched his advertising career in Mexico, travelling the world on shoots in over 20 countries, across five continents.

His commercial work has seen him deliver for big name brands including Nestle, PepsiCo, Lipton Tea, Maybank and Lenovo.

In addition to TVCs, in 2006 he directed award-winning feature documentary ‘Laya Project’ – a visual and musical journey through the 2004 Asian tsunami-affected regions of Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia, Maldives, Myanmar and India. The film was recognised as an official selection in more than 20 global film festivals and was the winner of the Special Juror’s Choice Award at ZIFF in Zanzibar, the Audience Awards Imaginaria Film Festival in Italy, the Best Film Founder’s Choice Award at NYIIFVF, Los Angeles, USA, and the Best Film at Byron Bay Film Festival in Australia.

In 2010 he followed up with independent feature-length documentary, ‘A Good Day To Die, Hoka Hey’, as writer, producer and director. The documentary follows the extraordinary adventures of British conflict photographer Jason P. Howe and provides an insight into how passion led to a downward spiral of disillusionment in this crazy tale of survival and change.

Monfils’ compelling storytelling saw ‘A Good Day to Die, Hoka Hey’ selected to showcase in Cannes-France at Marche du Film, receiving international recognition at the Los Angeles Film Festival (LAFF) United Nations Event, Biografilm Festival in Italy and at the prestigious Warsaw International Film Festival in Poland. The film currently plays at film festivals internationally.

Says Seven Sunday Films executive producer Rodney Vincent: “Harold is a very experienced director and we are very privileged to be representing him in our part of the world. Harold is well known for his ease on set and for his great collaboration with clients. We can’t wait to get him across exciting projects here in Indonesia.”
