Advertising society skills-up Adland's next generation

NABS’ annual Fast Forward training programme, which discovers some of the hottest young talent in advertising and media, came to a nail-biting finale on Wednesday evening as the winning team was announced.

Team Jung scooped the award in a fiercely-fought contest, responding to a fictitious government brief on dealing with the issue of mental health in teens, and the drain on resources this has on government spending.

A week earlier, the eight teams had delivered ten minute pitches to client Wendy Proctor, deputy director, Cabinet Office Shared Communications Service and a team of high profile judges at JWT.

NABS’ Fast Forward training programme gives the industry’s hottest young talent the chance to learn directly from advertising’s most respected figures, who give their time to deliver bespoke sessions on a range of key industry skills. Working in multi-disciplinary teams comprised of delegates and mentors, the groups then apply the skills learned over the weeks in a night of high tension, quick-fire pitches.

Winning Team Jung wowed the judges, impressing them with a well-structured and highly cohesive presentation. The team’s campaign particularly stood out due to its high impact start, crisp analysis of the complex brief and great use of partnerships.

Mark Lund, chairman of NABS Fast Forward said: “Everyone says that we live in a performance economy. On that basis this next generation of ad people are going to be world beaters. Each year Fast Forward brings in hungry, young advertising and media professionals and gives them a chance to boost their skills and learn from some of the best in the industry. Each team showed a great emotional maturity in addressing the brief, and produced exceptional, creative ideas that really impressed the judging panel.”

As a further prize, Team Jung has been given the opportunity by Sheila Mitchell, director of marketing at Public Health England to present their ideas at Whitehall, where they will meet the real government team responsible for this policy.

Team Jung was mentored by Louise Davidson, managing partner at WCRS and Andrew Gregoris senior strategic planner at SapientNitro The team consisted of:

· Caroline Seabrook, Account Executive, adam&eveDDB

· Elisabeth Adams, Account Executive, DLKW Lowe

· Charlie Watson, Graphic Designer, Generator Hostels

· Jenny Hardy, Industry Analyst, Google

· Jessica De Court, Account Manager, Grey London

· Chester Lau, WPP Fellow, JWT

· Kate Wood, Account Manager, Krow Communications

· Fiona Berry, Senior Account Executive, Langland

Fast Forward was set up 14 years ago by legendary industry godfather Jeremy Bullmore, and is currently run by Mark Lund as chairman.
