ZOO Digital's Julian Day on his Cannes Essentials
Group_3646
Company:  ZOO
Name:  Julian Day
Website:  zoodigital.com
What does your company do?
The stuff you don’t want to think about but need more and more – captions, subtitles, audio description & language dubbing for ads, promos, trailers, TV & movies.
Who from your team will be on the beach in Cannes?
Julian Day, Director of Business Development and ‘Clever’ Joe Parkes, Senior Producer.

Cannes Essentials:

Mode of transportation to Cannes - BA from Gatwick (Jules) and Manchester (CJ)
How are you getting from the airport?  210 bus (unless anyone want’s to slip me an UberCopter voucher…)
Accommodation: Our usual compact & bijou apartment in Le Suquet, near the old port.
Cannes Bed Time:  Too late
Cannes Wake Up Time:  Too early
Top Spot for a Meeting:  Is this a trick question?  The LBB Beach of course!
Favourite Restaurant:  Grandmother’s Wheelbarrow (I’m not giving you the French name or the address or they won't have a table left for me).
Favourite Watering Hole:  Has to be the Cristal Bar, 1 Rue Felix Faure.  They know us now so – free chips!
Favourite Shopping destination:  Ceneri Fromagerie, 22 Rue Meynadier.  They can vacuum pack your cheese so you don’t offend the entire plane on the way home.
Best Guest List to be on:  The Honeycomb speedboat (I haven’t managed this yet).
Tourist Site/Activity not to be missed: A Sunday visit to the Ile Saint Marguerite and/or an evening walk around the old town.  Both surprisingly calm and beautiful given that they’re so close to the action.
Top Cannes tip:  Relax, you’re on expenses.  Oh, and the Gutter Bar on the last night IS a brilliant idea…

Travel Essentials

All the painkillers, toiletries and sun cream you think you might need – and then some more.  It all seems super expensive in France (and you can’t claim those on expenses).  Oh, and if you’re follicly challenged (like me) – a hat (but please see below before you start packing).

‘From Home’ comfort item: Nothing springs to mind – I’m pretty low maintenance.
First thing you do when you get to Cannes:  Stock up the fridge - wine, beer, St- Yorre water (trust me, you’ll love it) and of course stinky cheese, slide open the doors and get on the balcony.
Cannes exercise of choice:  With our apartment being where it is (and the LBB Beach being where it is) it’s quite easy to walk 6+ miles a day.  That’s quite enough, I think.

Around Cannes:

Top Cannes Celebrity Spot:  30 minutes chatting to industry legend Michael Bungay at the LBB Beach did it for me.
Who would you like to meet?  The kids who nicked my pink ‘doughnut’ rubber ring last year when it escaped me in the sea.  I’d give them what for…
Favourite Cannes tipple/soft drink?:  It’s a cliché, but for me it’s rosé.  For a softie it’s menthe a l’eau.
Best hangover cure:  The sea and a massage at the LBB Beach

LBB & Friends Beach:
Best time to be on the LBB & Friends Beach:  All day every day
Best spot to get your lounger on the beach:  Middle row, in the centre (but please bagsy a couple for us).
What are you putting in the LBB Beach goody bag?:  This year it’s a ZOO baseball cap – but don’t worry, it’s been thought about design-wise, so you might actually be happy to wear it in public.
