Award-winning creative hired for MassiveMusic’s Amsterdam headquarters

International music agency MassiveMusic has announced the addition of Alex Normanton, who joins the company’s headquarters as Creative Director of Music & Brands.

Normanton comes to the organisation with a strong background in strategic design and advertising, after working in the creative industry for nearly two decades and winning numerous industry accolades such as Graphis, D&AD and Cannes Lions, to name just a few.

Working closely with Amsterdam’s Head of Music & Brands Luc van Stiphout and London’s Head of Branding Roscoe Williamson, Normanton will be responsible for the creative output of MassiveMusic Europe.

Brands are becoming more and more conscious of how they sound to the world. They are starting to recognise how music and sound can help them with issues such as brand recall, perception and engagement. Tapping the talents of Normanton, the agency notes that the role will allow them to refine their current strategy, create new opportunities and continue to be the industry benchmark when it comes to music for advertising and sonic identities for brands.

Normanton’s hire comes at an important moment for the international music agency. The offices are focusing on a collaborative way of working with worldwide expansion plans.

Hans Brouwer, CEO and Founder of MassiveMusic, comments: “Because of the ever-increasing amount of brands recognising the power of music as a way of positioning themselves, we’ve been looking for someone who could fully support us in translating the substance and soul of brands into big, musical ideas. Alex has years of brand, design and advertising knowledge combined with a personality that embodies our unique MassiveMusic DNA. We’re really happy to have him on board.”

On his appointment, Normanton says: “I’m incredibly excited to join the MassiveMusic family and to be instrumental in the next phase of their worldwide development. It’s taken a long time to find a professional, intelligent, ambitious and innovative company spirit – a culture where passion and integrity are highly valued; so the stars have finally aligned. They also happen to be a group of incredibly talented people who have a lot of fun together. I’m looking forward to creating and leading behaviour changing work that tells consistent and compelling brand stories through music and sound – all centred around a big idea.”

Originally from Halifax (West Yorkshire, England), Normanton’s appointment follows a distinguished career, which started when he moved to London in 1999 after landing his first job with Saatchi & Saatchi through the D&AD Student Expo. Throughout the years, he has worked in various roles and with a wide variety of clients, from small and medium-sized enterprises to large corporates and global brands, applying his skills in strategic thinking, creative direction, identity and implementation. He brings a wealth of experience which he will now apply to all things audible.

Besides winning several industry awards, other career highlights include the release of the popular book ‘Signs of Life’ with Dave Askwith and his involvement in a campaign to launch the re-mastered ‘Listen Without Prejudice’ album by George Michael. Prior to this recent hire, he also ran his own design company and freelanced for various agencies in both London and Amsterdam.

Normanton also plays four instruments, which will be added strings to his role in helping brands tell their stories through music and sound.

Clients on MassiveMusic’s list include Heineken, Philips, Premier League and Dutch airline KLM amongst others.
