Earlier this year Netflix announced three new Indian original series which are spread across a variety of genres and themes, exploring broad and diverse narratives, including drama, horror and mystery. Ghoul, one of the three new original series, is an Indian horror based on Arabic folklore.

Written and directed by Patrick Graham, starring Radhika Apte (known for her roles in Parched and Badlapur) and Manav Kaul (Wazir and A Scandal), the series is scored by both Benedict Taylor and Naren Chandavarkar, who are a new collaborative composition duo based between London & Mumbai. Their music focuses on conventional and experimental composition, improvisation and performance techniques, engaging with numerous independent music projects alongside international commissions.

The dystopian series is set within an Indian military detention centre and Nida, a young newly recruited military interrogator arrives at the remote military intern centre. Here she is faced with new prisoner, Ali Saeed, who manipulates his interrogators and exposes their most shameful secrets, and as Nina discovers the eerie truth of his supernatural actions she soon battles for survival.

Erik Barmack, vice president of international original series, at Netflix, “We are proud to continue to invest in original content in India. These three series, from the scary to the supernatural, represent the tremendous diversity that Indian storytelling holds for a global audience. We are thrilled to work with some of the world's most talented writers and producers to bring these stories to life for India and the world.”

Benedict Taylor is known for his work in film and theatre scoring as well as a violist and violinist specialising in contemporary music.

His recent projects have included, Maunraag, (Monologue); a fictional reconstruction of the oeuvre of renowned modern playwright Mahesh Elkunchwar, award winning film The Bright Day, about a questioning young man’s journey through modern India in search of meaning and Oysters, a Film London production investigating the situation between two young people, with a shared emotional history.

Previously, Benedict studied at the Royal Northern College of Music & Goldsmiths College where he now gives lectures in composition and performance. He also performs as a soloist and with top ensembles in many of the world’s leading venues and festivals. Benedict is the founder and artistic director of CRAM, a music collective and independent record label dedicated to new and improvised music.
