The BBC One hit drama Our Girl returned for a second series last night, once again scored by composer Ben Foster.
Ben is a composer who has written extensively for television, most notably the first three series of Torchwood, which earned him 3 BAFTA nominations for best music, and theme tunes for the BBC including Cardiff Singer of the World, Young Musician and Question Time.
In 2014 his broadcast work as composer includes the natural history drama Hidden Kingdoms, the smash-hit thriller Happy Valley, the gritty, Afghan-war based Our Girl, (all for BBC1), and Series 4 of Scott & Bailey for ITV. Ben has also arranged and conducted Sir Paul McCartney’s forthcoming single ‘Hope’, series 8 of Doctor Who and the film Poltergeist. In 2015, Ben wrote scores for Thunderbirds Are Go for ITV (co-written with brother Nick Foster), and Banana by Russell T Davies from Red Productions for E4.
Ben is also known as an orchestral arranger and conductor – highlights include 99 episodes of Doctor Who for the BBC, Sir Paul McCartney’s 2013 album NEW and a world tour with Peter Gabriel. Film work includes The Grey, Prometheus, and Prisoners. As a conductor Ben has worked with many orchestras around the world including the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Queensland SO, New Zealand SO, CBSO, London Symphony Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Philharmonic, BBC Concert Orchestra and has performed at venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Sydney Opera House, the Hollywood Bowl and Radio City Music Hall, NYC. He has also conducted at the BBC Proms on five occasions.
He is currently working on the second series of both Thunderbirds Are Go for ITV, and this second series Our Girl for BBC1.
