Martin de Thurah shows the best of Mexico in 'Do It Again' music video

The video for the latest work by Röyksopp & Robyn, “Do it again” –on Billboard’s chart for the last 11 weeks- was released yesterday. It was directed by Martin de Thurah and completely produced by Mexican production company, The Lift. This is the second time the Norwegian electro pop artists Röyksopp have worked with Martin, following his direction of their first work in 2006 “What else is there”.

“Do it again feels like it’s an unstoppable pop mantra of something out of hand. A spiraling hypnotic maelstrom which pulls inwards.  The video touches our hearts desires-deep passions, the revolutions full of hope and excitement, a dream of freedom, obsession, the ecstasy and escapism - the darkness - and it ends in a mix of violence and laughter, freedom and the loss of free will. All of this somehow ends on a note of hope through struggle. Something worth fighting for. Do it again”, said Martin de Thurah.

This is the fifth project developed by de Thurah in Mexico alongside with The Lift, in which the selection of the locations took more than 20 days, visiting more than 30 distinct locations around the country ranging from lagoons, forest and mountains to farms, haciendas and typical villages. “It was key for us that part of this project be shot outside Mexico City, because it gives the final product the sense of adventure that is so important for The Lift”, said José Barrera, Executive producer at The Lift.

Finally the video was shot in the states of Hidalgo, Puebla, downtown Mexico City and the suburbs of Pachuca City. “We selected woods, ranches and many stunning scenarios and worked with more than 30 local actors, including Cassandra Ciangherotti, Tessa La, Siouziana Melikian and Héctor Kotsifakis. In terms of locations and characters, this was one of the richest and most ambitious projects we have ever worked on in the 9 years of our company’s history. We knew we had to do something epic to surpass Martin’s previous work in the country. We’d like to thank the artists; Röyksopp & Robyn for trusting Martin and The Lift to develop their project in Mexico”, added Avelino Rodríguez, Managing director at The Lift.

Martin de Thurah was born in Copenhagen and graduated from the National Film School of Denmark. He is a multidiscipline artist that not only has directed short films, documentaries and more recently has worked for BBH and Droga5, but his love for music videos has taken him to work with  David Byrne, Kayne West and James Blake, among other international artists.
