Anthony Plant Joins

IPG Mediabrands, the global media holding company of Interpublic Group (NYSE: IPG), has announced that Anthony Plant, a 24-year veteran director with Saatchi & Saatchi, has been appointed IPG Mediabrands CEO in Japan.

IPG Mediabrands manages $36 billion dollars in media investment globally, operating in over 120 countries through its many media and specialist service agencies.

Plant will be directing IPG Mediabrands’ already strong presence in the Japanese market, assuming leadership of its marquee global agency UM as well as the satellite of services operating as the Mediabrands Audience Platform (MAP). He will be working toward new levels of collaboration between IPG agencies and spurring more efficiency in investment, fostering already high levels of growth shown by MAP agencies such as Reprise Media and Cadreon, setting up IPG Mediabrands to capitalise on the increasing demand for innovative media solutions.

In his new position, Plant will be reporting into Jim Hytner, CEO G14 Mediabrands. Joe Nakamura, CEO of UM Japan, will be reporting into Plant in his new position.  The company is in discussion with Kaoru Matsui about other opportunities.

Plant has worked with Saatchi & Saatchi in both Europe and Asia. He spent several years as regional account director before working his way up to European board level. He became Managing Director of the company’s Saatchi & Saatchi Experience offering in 2003 and launched Saatchi X Shopper marketing in 2005 and served as its CEO, concurrently to serving as Saatchi & Saatchi’s Hong Kong CEO. As Director of P&G brands in China since 2008, he has developed a keen operational eye working across the expansive domestic market there.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join IPG Mediabrands in Japan. This role represents the ultimate challenge for me, bringing to bear everything I’ve learned to date in my career to bring IPG Mediabrands’ respective services together in Japan and move them forward within a rapidly developing media market like Japan,” Plant said.

“The Japanese market holds a lot of potential for growth within it. Anthony is a stalwart, he’s done it all with Saatchi & Saatchi, working over the years with leading companies like Disney and Burger King and Visa coming up big for them. He’s been a brand manager, account director, has great new media knowledge and skills and is a forward thinker. We’re excited to see what happens when he brings that wealth of talent to focus on IPG Mediabrands’ offerings in Japan,” said Jim Hytner, CEO G14 Mediabrands.
