The Norwegian director is inspired by his rural upbringing

John Christian, under creative alias I Saw John First, has recently joined creative studio Strange Beast. With an impressive portfolio of work, ranging from Ghost Culture music videos to Fiskemannen’s ‘Quickfish’ puppet animation, John’s stylised techniques are a welcome addition to the Soho-based studio. The Norwegian director is inspired by his rural upbringing, filling his sketchbooks with strange ideas and translating them into bizarrely whimsical animations.

Strange Beast’s team of creatives and directors are behind the most innovative work of recent years bringing together illustrators, animators, photographers, directors and artists. Since completing a BA in Moving Image at Central St. Martins, John has experimented with different types of mediums and techniques, whether it be live action, stop motion, compositing, puppetry, prop making or 2D animation. It is this extensive commercial and creative experience, as well as his versatility with techniques and mediums, that make I Saw John First an exciting asset to the Strange Beast team.
