72andSunny Amsterdam convinced augmented reality gaming veterans to experiment with the virtual interior design tool

After releasing the witty game show series Matchers Keepers that sees couples and flatmates find out how well their tastes really match, IKEA is now tapping into another type of gamer. Fans of the world’s most popular location-based AR game took a break from their usual hunt to try out their design skills using the new IKEA Place AR app in London’s Victoria Park.

In true documentary style, ‘Place in the Park’ was created with partner agency 72andSunny Amsterdam and follows a modern subculture of AR obsessives who brave the cold and the early mornings to augment their own realities. To celebrate the launch of IKEA Place on Android, several gamers were invited to try out the augmented reality (AR) app and put their design skills to the test. All they had to do was select and place items using augmented reality before seeing their design choices come to life in their very own living room.

Check out how they got on here:

IKEA Place lets users confidently experiment, experience and “place” 3-D representations of more than 3,200 IKEA products into their space to ensure that they are just the right size and design. From sofas and lighting to beds and wardrobes. IKEA Place is now available on Android for all ARCore compatible devices.

The latest release has a range of new features, including Visual Search powered by Grokstyle. This allows people to take a picture with their phone of any furniture they see, and then find similar or matching IKEA products through the app, ready for purchase.
