Canica Films director Francesca Canepa is bringing quality Peruvian cinema to the rest of the world with her short feature 'Aya', a film that has been selected as the Best Iberoamerican Short Film by the Guadalajara International Film Festival. More than 800 works were submitted and almost forty shorts were in competition, including works by Penelope Cruz and Alex Lora, both important iberoamerican artists. With the help of PromPeru -a government branch designed to help spread peruvian culture around the world-, Francesca and the film's producer, Jimena Hospina, managed to assist the festival and receive the honor.
This award comes after a successful run in Peru, where 'Aya' was shown commercially in theatres, paired with Adrian Saba's new feature film, 'The Dreamer'. Early in 2016 it was given the prize for Best First Film in the Lima Film Festival. It will also be part of the Cannes Short Film Corner. The film has already been seen by more than 150,000 people.
After her success in Guadalajara, the film has been submitted to the Los Angeles Film Festival and the Palm Springs International Film Festival. It will also try it's luck in the Toronto International Film Festival or TIFF, one known for catapulting new talents into the higher echelons of cinema.
