Ewen Spencer Joins My Accomplice
Ewen Spencer is a British photographer and documentary filmmaker known for his photography of youth and subcultures. Having begun his career shooting for Sleazenation and the Face, in 2003 he focused his attention on the burgeoning grime scene and self-published D&AD award-winning photography book Open Mic in 2005.

My Accomplice and Ewen have already completed their first project together. Ewen has previously worked with Media Arts Lab and was asked to collaborate on two 30 sec spots announcing Apple’s partnership with the BRITs 2017. Ewen was briefed to deliver two lifestyle films because of his close affiliations to the subject – UK youth subcultures. Shot in London over three days the films showcase Ewen’s proximity to UK subcultures and exhibit an authenticity that few directors can achieve, having street cast a lot of the contributors through Ewen’s extended network.
Both films premiered during the BRITs on Wednesday 22nd Feb.
In 2014 Ewen directed a short documentary ‘Brandy & Coke’ exploring the UK Garage scene for Dazed & Confused, which was picked up by C4’s Music Nation for a long-form national television broadcast. This was followed by a further short documentary for Music Nation about the grime scene; ‘Open Mic’. C4 and i-D magazine subsequently commissioned a four-part documentary film series “Street, Sound and Style” charting the journey of youth style and music from 1980 through to today.
