Inspiring team effort with The Works and Photoplay Films means awareness of MND won’t fade to black

Getting behind a worthy cause, Cutting Edge was recently approached by independent creative agency The Works and production company Photoplay Films to complete post production on a stirring new campaign titled ‘The Fading Symphony’ for MND Australia.

The campaign sees Aussie musician, actor and comedian Tim Minchin and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra (SSO) perform an uplifting version of Crowded House hit ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’ to raise awareness of the debilitating symptoms of motor neuron disease (MND). The innovative re-recording and video of the track demonstrates the physical impacts of the disease metaphorically through the deteriorating performances of the artists.

All creative and production partners, along with Minchin and the SSO, worked pro bono on the campaign, while Crowded House frontman Neil Finn gave permission to use his song. The campaign was filmed locally at the City Recital Hall in Sydney.

Cutting Edge executive producer Samantha Daley says: “We are really pleased with the results that saw all of the talented creative partners come together to help people better understand what it’s like to live with MND.”

“Photoplay director Husein Alicajic did a beautiful job of capturing this sensitive story and ‘The Fading Symphony’ has opened up the conversation about MND whilst also giving viewers more than just a good feeling after donating – they get access to Tim and the orchestra performing in a second video.”
