Alessia Cara was one of a number of successful Sony/ATV songwriters at Sunday night’s Grammy Awards after winning Best New Artist
Cara said she had been “pretend winning Grammys since I was a kid in my shower” as she picked up the award at the 60th annual ceremony at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. Best New Artist was one of four categories in which she had been nominated and overcame fellow nominees Khalid, Lil Uzi Vert, Julia Michaels and SZA to receive the award.

Fellow Sony/ATV songwriter Ray Romulus won Song Of The Year as a co-writer of Bruno Mars’ “That’s What I Like”, while Mars’ 24K Magic featuring that song and the Romulus co-penned “Finesse” was named Album Of The Year. “That’s What I Like” also won Best R&B Song and 24K Best R&B Album.

Sony/ATV’s Ed Sheeran added two more Grammys to his previous two wins after “Shape Of You” was named Best Pop Solo Performance and Divide won Best Pop Vocal Album. It was Sheeran’s second Best Pop Solo Performance win having been recognized two years ago for “Thinking Out Loud”.

Longtime Kendrick Lamar collaborator Sounwave shared in the rap superstar’s Grammy successes with wins for Best Rap Album (DAMN.) and Best Rap/Sung Performance (“Loyalty”). Sounwave was one of a number of Sony/ATV writers who contributed to the Lamar album.

There was a posthumous Grammy for Leonard Cohen, whose catalog is looked after by Sony/ATV, as his song “You Want It Darker” was recognized as Best Rock Performance, while legendary German band Kraftwerk won Best Dance/Electronic Album for 3-D The Catalogue.

Sony/ATV-signed Taylor Swift’s song “Better Man” won Best Country Duo/Group Performance for the group Little Big Town. It was the latest honor for the composition having won Song Of The Year at last November’s CMA Awards.

A year after picking up four awards for his work with Adele, Greg Kurstin was among the Grammy winners again as he was named Producer Of The Year, Non-Classical for the second successive year. It is the first time since Babyface, who won in 1996, 1997 and 1998, that anyone has won the category for a second time in a row.

Two of Sony/ATV’s biggest Latin stars also had a very successful Grammys night with Shakira’s El Dorado named Best Latin Pop Album and Residente’s self-titled album winning Best Latin Rock, Urban Or Alternative Album.
