Director brings an exploration-driven style to the company's roster

Believe Media is pleased to announce that Colombian director Simon Brand has been added to the production company’s roster. Simon brings to Believe an unmistakable international sensibility and highly visual style that has leveraged him to become one of the most sought after directors of today.

Simon's bicultural background, combined with an exceptional photographic eye, helped to shape his exploration-driven style. Simon expertly crafts compelling visual stories that examine the human condition, with the versatility to translate this seamlessly across commercial, music video, and film formats. His work has greatly impacted the culture at large, with Simon being named by Variety Magazine as "one of the 40 most influential Latin people in Hollywood.” He was also honored by being included in the book "100 Colombians" as an example of success among the likes of Shakira, Sofia Vergara, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

As a child, Simon’s inspiration was literally at his fingertips, held in the thousands of films at the video rental store his family managed in Colombia. He first stepped behind the lens as a determined 17 year old directing a music video for a local rock band, which quickly affirmed filmmaking was the career for him.  Looking for a challenge, Simon moved to U.S. to hone his craft while studying at the Art Institute and Emerson College.

With a drive as immense as his creativity, Simon has directed over 100 music videos for artists such as Ricky Martin, Marc Anthony, Shakira, Christina Aguilera, the legendary Celia Cruz, and many projects with Enrique Iglesias. Simon also led the powerful video for Calle 13’s anti-violence anthem “La Bala,” which was shot in 12 countries. He quickly became popular in the UK after directing several pop videos for artists like Westlife, Steps, and Gabrielle, and it was in Europe that he built his stellar commercial reel. Simon has directed over 200 spots for notable brands such as Pepsi, Nabisco, Miller Brewing, Coca Cola, Coors Light, BMW, AT&T, Verizon, and Apple, to name a few. His impressive body of work has earned Simon a legion of accolades including awards from Clio, Telly, FIAP, MTV VMAs, and 5 Grammy nominations for Best Music Video.

Even with all that under his belt, Simon still hadn’t achieved his purest goal: to take on feature films. In 2003, he moved to Los Angeles to direct his debut feature, "UNKNOWN" starring Jim Caviezel, Greg Kinnear, Barry Pepper and Joe Pantoliano, distributed by the Weinstein Company/ IFC Films and GreeneStreet films. Simon followed it up with his second film, "Paraiso Travel," a Spanish-language feature based on the best-selling book by the famed author Jorge Franco. “Paraiso Travel” went on to became one of top grossing films in the history of Colombia, and was called one of the best Latin films of the last decade by TIME Magazine. In 2010, Simon completed his first documentary "Encuere,” about the life of displaced families on the northern coast of Colombia. Currently, Simon is gearing up to release his third film “Default,” and to begin shooting an action thriller with Bruce Willis in Brazil this summer.

With a mutual dedication to crafting stories that captivate, the visions of Believe Media and Simon Brand perfectly align. On joining the company’s formidable roster, Simon remarks, “Believe has always been a reference for great directors and amazing work. I’m very proud and excited to become part of the Believe family, and am looking forward to sharing great moments with Liz Silver, Luke Thornton, Mark O’Sullivan and the rest of the believers.”
