In 1984, AMV BBDO won the first ever D&AD Black Pencil in press advertising for their 'Liver and Bacon' ad for Cow & Gate. This was followed by a Black Pencil for Guinness 'Surfer' for Direction (in craft) in 2000. The agency has now won its third Black Pencil for directing (in craft) for 'Viva La Vulva' in a sector notorious for its lack of creativity, breaking taboos for females around the world.
Martina Poulpati, global brand, innovation and sustainability, Essity, comments: “We are completely overwhelmed by the recognition of the Viva la Vulva campaign, which is a testament to the passion, dedication and persistence that has brought it to life, on the AMV, Somesuch, and Essity side. We hope this inspires more brands to be brave and to be outstandingly meaningful to their consumers”.
Sarah Douglas, CEO and Alex Grieve, ECD at AMV BBDO, add: “We are a creative company and it’s a great thrill when that creativity is recognised so highly. D&AD Black Pencils are the holy grail in awards globally, they’re like gold dust. So we are very proud to be awarded an iconic third black pencil for a film that has broken boundaries and changed the sector forever. Viva La Vulva to everyone involved in this amazing campaign and here’s to all the females it has given a voice to.”
